Just got done watching King2Hearts! What an epic drama, one that surely will stay on my mind for a long while. It just have alot to say! I don’t think I’m in the right position to critique the show. I honestly had to cram alot of the episodes in three days before the last two episodes aired. But even so, there were some memoriable scenes that caught my heart. Scenes that held me on edge, got me to love, got me to reflect myself, and some scenes that I wish I could do (like stopping a war with the greatest idea for peacemaking) and so damn right proud it was able to pull through in this drama.

One cool thing I like about this drama was the portrayal of Women’s Role. The women’s role here is of a strong, bold characteristic with high intellectualism. Its a touchy topic, I know, but I couldn’t help but notice the significance the role of The Queen-Mother, the Princess, and Hang-ah. In here, I see that the ladies didn’t have to feel so vulnerable at desperate times, and showed that they were capable to bring themselves back to their feet if they happened to fall.

Examples? um…

We’re first introduced to Hang-Ah as Team Captain for the WOC. She held a higher position than her counter parts. Even so, she still had that feminine side of her that was noticeable. Fangirl-ing with SouthKorean Celebs; fantasizing romantic moments; having to worry if she was going to get marry off. But she play a generous role as the King’s Partner in Action to find peace for the royal family and to the two nations. Not only did she represented for both North and South, She also plays the mediator btwn them. She held a significant position; even if her role wasn’t powerful, but without her presences things wouldn’t had turn out the way they are.

The scene in ep 17, when the queen told Hang-Ah that it was time for them to escape from the evil henchman. She turned from “Lets ignore it for now so we can live” to “I don’t want to take crap anymore” and told Hang-Ah that South Korean Women were as strong and bold as any North Korean Women. and then she jumps into the lake without the aid of Hang-Ah. I was so darn happy. Not only was she old, but she was the Queen-Mother, who had always nagged her kids to keep a royal-like posture at all times. Sometimes a Queen will show fierce’s actions. 

The Princess was first introduced to us as the mischievous girl who got the things she wanted; said what she wanted; did what she wanted. She was in matter of fact, the Princess, who had two brothers who took care of things in the office. Even if she was a spoil brat, she was still bold and confident, pointed out by her body guard, who was boring, plain, and admitted not being confident as she is. After the tragic accident, it was true that she was vulnerable and traumatize; but with the help from her body guard (and Hang-ah for that extra push), she was able to push herself to literally stand on her two feet again (exert scene from Ep 17). She took the courage to hold position on the throne as her brother went away to the WOC competition; she overcame her fears; she became happy; she fell in love with a brave man. She ‘finished’ the drama beautifully and strong.

If someone was to ask me why i like the drama so much, this theme will be the first reason I’ll give them: “A strong portrayal of the Women’s Role who were courageous and smart, strong and powerful, gentle and beautiful”
